This Week on Sports Page: Mules Golf

We are hitting the links this week on Sports Page to talk Mules golf.  UCM head coach Tim Poe and sophomore Alex Gentry join me in the studio this week.

Tim Poe has been Mules Golf head coach at UCM for 32 years.  In that time, he has led the Mules to 14 MIAA Championships and 28 straight NCAA Tournament appearances.  His teams have qualified for the NCAA-II National Championships 12 times, advancing to the to 10 six times.  Last season, the Mules placed second in the MIAA, won the D-II Midwest/Central Regional, won the D-II stroke play tournament and tied for third in the national championships, the best finish in program history. A former Mules golfer himself, Coach Poe has been named MIAA Coach of the Year 14 times and is a 10-time recipient of the NCAA-II Regional/District Coach of the Year Award.  He was inducted into the Golf Coaches Association of America Hall of Fame in 2016 and the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame in 2022.  Coach Poe has also been a member of the Professional Golfers' Association of America since 1990.

Sophomore Alex Gentry is no slouch, himself.  He is second on the team this year in average and has two top 10 finishes and one top five finish (he was third last weekend at the UCO Broncho Invitational).  He was a member of last year's squad that tied for third in the nation and is now one of the leaders of the Mules in only his second season.  A sport management major, he earned MIAA Academic Honor Roll kudos last season.  And coming out of high school at Jefferson City Helias, he was ranked as the second-best player in Missouri, 11th in the Midwest, and 125th in the nation.

As usual, we'll also share some UCM athletics history (March 23-29 was a very good year for Mules and Jennies basketball), talk about where a former Mulekicker and a former Mules baseball player are today in our "Where Are They Now" segment, and highlight the week ahead.

Tune in at 6 p.m. to catch the show live on UCM-The Beat (ucmbeat.com, or download the app for Android) or listen on your own time by subscribing to our podcast for Apple, Spotify and Anchor.
