A little hoops trivia for you this week: In 1984, Central Missouri State University became the first college to see both its men's and women's basketball teams win their respective national championships in the same year. Not only that, but they also won on the same date (March 24) and on the same court (in Springfield, Mass.).
The Mules defeated St. Augustine's of North Carolina 81-77, and a couple hours later the Jennies defeated Virginia Union 80-73.
As the men's and women's tournaments are now held on separate dates and in separate locations, this is a feat that will never be duplicated. HOWEVER, one college has seen both its men's and women's teams win the national title in the same year. Who was it and in what year? And for bonus points (okay, bonus bragging rights as I am not yet in a position to award prizes), which schools did they defeat and what was the score of each game?
