This Week on Sports Page: Mules Wrestling

This week on Sports Page, we'll be talking with a couple first-year Mules, as head wrestling coach Cody Garcia and redshirt freshman Kaden Stanley are in the UCM-The Beat studio.

In April 2022, Coach Garcia became the 12th head coach in University of Central Missouri Mules wrestling history.  He came to UCM after seven years as head coach at Baker University, an NAIA wrestling power in Baldwin City, Kan.  Garcia was also a highly decorated wrestler at the University of Nebraska-Omaha and is the son of Mike Garcia, the first national champion in Mules wrestling history.

Kaden Stanley transferred to UCM this year from Lindenwood University.  He is a native of Claremore, Okla. where he was a three-time all-state wrestler and the 2021 state champion in his weight class.  A biology major, Stanley is the Mules' starter at 141 pounds.

We'll also share "This Week in UCM Athletics History", "Where Are They Now", and "This Week in UCM Athletics".  I'll also offer a tribute to the Head Mule, Jerry Hughes, who passed away last weekend after a brief illness.

Also, the answer to this week's trivia question, How many individual national championships have the University of Central Missouri Mules and Jennies won in track and field?

The answer:  53, which includes 14 athletes who have been national champions at least twice.  The Mules and Jennies have also produced 443 All-Americans.  We'll feature two in this week's segment of "Where Are They Now?".
