This week on "Sports Page" we'll be featuring Jennies Basketball. The Jennies enter the week 15-0, 11-0 in the MIAA. They have tied their top start in school history and will go for the record Thursday, Jan. 19 at 5:30 p.m. in Maryville, Mo. when they take on Northwest Missouri State University.
Joining me this week will be head coach Dave Slifer and redshirt sophomore guard/forward Brooke Littrell. They know a thing or two about winning.
Slifer is the winningest head coach in Jennies basketball history. In his 19th year with UCM, he is 390-166 (774-265 in 34 years overall). He has led the Jennies to 11 NCAA postseason berths and a National Championship in 2017-18. Slifer is the second winningest active coach in NCAA Division II and 13th across all three divisions.
Littrell was second-team All-America and first-team All-Central Region and All-MIAA last season. She is second in the MIAA this season in scoring (19.9 ppg), rebounding (9.1 rpg), and free throw percentage (.863), fourth in field goal percentage (.535), 10th in the league in blocked shots (1.0) and sixth in minutes (31.7).
A native of Green City, Mo., she is an agricultural science major with a 3.01 GPA.
We'll talk about the current season, visit about how they got here, chat about what motivates them and more. We'll also play a couple games to get to know Slifer and Littrell a little better. I'll also share some UCM athletics history, talk about the week ahead and tell you where one former Mule and one former Jennie are today.
